Sophie Wessex wore 'bold cross pendant' at wedding - and it was designed by Prince Edward

When Sophie Wessex first met Prince Edward, she was employed at Capital Radio in 1987.

However, the couple did not begin dating until 1993, which was after a delay of six years.

On June 19, 1999, the Earl and Countess of Wessex exchanged vows in Windsor Castle's St. George's Chapel.

Fine jewelry specialists at UK shop Steven Stone have closely examined the magnificent

necklace and matching earrings that Prince Edward gave Sophie on their wedding day in honor of his 59th birthday today.

Jewelry expert Zack Stone told Express.co.uk that Sophie Wessex was "the unsung hero of style"

and that her necklace and earrings caught everyone's attention on her wedding day.

The necklace has a striking cross pendant, and both pieces were created by Prince Edward himself and have a combination of white and black pearls.

The specialist went on to explain why pearls hold such special meaning for members of the Royal Family.
